Rory is not really the likable type. Better known for clearing the tavern when he gets angry drunk than doing his duties as magistrate, he is a bit of a bully. It is supposed that bearing the name of one of the wealthiest Deneb families while simultaneously having such a low posting as far as possible from Deneb as one can be and still remain within the region, that Rory might just be a small embarrassment to his family. It’s not hard to see. He’s lazy, rude, selfish and easily offends.
He is a somewhat capable with his charge of weapons and armor however, though convincing him to serve the town as magistrate in anything more than name has been a pointless task. This would serve the populace of Ra’sel just fine as their trust is well vested in the community leaders who have thus far served as town militia and have been more than adequate. Even when it’s highly probable that the only task he does take seriously (taxation and weighing) is the one that givens him an opportunity to skim and fill his pockets. Still the village folk endure him with relative good nature, if a bit pained.
Recent times however are driving home the need of an actual armed, trained, and dutiful soldier type. The townsfolk can’t trust him, and have thus far been unable to convince him to serve their best interests.
